NRcontrol – software to control ONKYO AVR's via network

About

Hi,

I’m a pure hobby developer working with VB.net. NRcontrol is my first ever VB.net project. However I had extensive experience with VBA for MS Office in the past. So not a start at point zero.

I’m living in Northern Germany in a little town called Hermannsburg. For a living I’m working in the oil and gas service industry.

Cheers

  1. I just released an iPhone program that does some of the same things that your program does. I don’t support the TX906 yet, and it doesn’t seem to work, but I have been told that it works well with your program. The only thing I can think of is that it uses a different terminator character on the eISCP message. Was there anything different you had to do for older receivers than newer ones? Thanks for any insight.

    • I’ve send you an email. Let me know whether it helps.

      • I realize you have put allot of hard work into creating this application. I have an Onkyo TX-NR809 and your application has issues with it, I was curious, since development seems to have slowed on this, if you would be willing to share your source code so that I might be able to fine tune it to work with the 809?

Works fine so far on my Integra DHC-80.1, although I haven’t tried all functions yet. One thing is not clear to me – probably a dumb question, but I don’t see the best way to start the application (in Win7)- just the install file?

    Thanks for all you do.

    • Install file??? So far I have never published an Install file. The exe file I’m offering for download can be directly started without installation. My PC history goes back to the mid 80’s and stiil prefer programms that do not interfere with my operating system and the installation if possible. NRcontrol therefore writes its own configuration file so I’m not bloating any registry files. You can create a short cut to NRcontrol and then put this shortcut into theW7 menu structuire if you like.

I am running windows 7 and every time I launch NRcontrol it says stops working and won’t launch. I installed the fonts still nothing. Is there something I’m missing?

    • I’m running W7 too and no problems. Maybe your specific W7 is missing something like the .net framework. In my list of installed software I see multiple entries for Microsoft .net framework 4.

I just updated and ensured I had all the .net framework. Still crashes, really frustating cause it’s a great program and I really want it to work.

Wow, great application. But PC and NET doesn’t work with my 509. Any glue what I did wrong? Every other function is working fine.

    • May be the 509 uses different control codes for these two inputs than my 807.

      • Same with my TX-NR609. PC, PHONO and NET selections do not “click”. Oddly, the surround mode does change to what I selected for that source.

  6. I’ve been using this to do some basic control of my 515 but I notice that there’s not really any way to navigate the net menu and see what’s going on without looking at the display on the onkyo unit or having the tv on. However, on your banner image it looks like there is album art, and it know it’s on last.fm etc. Is this a mock up of future aims or am I missing something? Thanks!

Hi. I would like to remote control my Onkyo, but unfortunately had to find that my T-4070 is not compatible. Therefore I would like to develop an own solution to e.g. establish an auto wake-up function. Can you tell me how remote with Onkyo works and which protocol is being used?

Nice work! One Problem on my TX-NR626 is, that Home Media is selected instead of Favorites when I choose radio station.
I hope you keep on improving your project.

Der Quellcode würde mich auch interessieren. Kannst dich gerne per Mail melden.

Great work! Your app is working with my Integra 40.6, however, it cannot control the Zone 3 (power, source, volume up, down) The button is there, but it’s not working. I have tested the codes for Z3 using the Manual commands option and they are working fine. Is it possible to add functionality for Zone 3?

    November 2, 2015 at 17:03

    • NRcontrol does not support Zone 3 and I currently don’t plan to add that. I’m sorry other non-computer projects do have higher priority and I’m satisfied with NRcontrol for my own purposes as is right now. I have and I will share the source code with interested people that are interested to implement additional functionality.
      kind regards
      Hartmut
